Join us Sunday, March 1 at 2 pm for “Fresh from Ukraine: What it’s like on the ground now.” This next event in the Beacon of Light series welcomes Richmond resident Barbara Postel who will share photos and experiences of volunteering with Lviv New Acropolis Cultural Center’s Camouflage Net Project And Lviv Volunteer Kitchen.

Barbara Postel is descended from Mennonites who lived in southern Ukraine. The members of her family and community who did not leave just before World War I were devastated by waves of repression, exile, and famine. For Barbara, Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine was deeply personal. In 2024, when she discovered there was humble volunteer work to be done in Lviv, she immediately took the opportunity to go and help. Barbara volunteers with Lviv Volunteer Kitchen and the Lviv New Acropolis Cultural Center Camouflage Net Project. She fundraises in support of the Camouflage Net Project.
