St. Columba’s Retreat House is unique! Just an hour north from San Francisco, we are on the edge of the Pt. Reyes National Seashore in West Marin (County). Guests tell us that they come for the beauty and serenity as an ‘escape’ from the clamor of a busier world — and uniformly leave with a sense of spiritual renewal and desire to return again. In fact, many visitors have been returning regularly for more than 50 years.
Our Retreat Mission is faithfully supported by a small parish congregation, past and present, community and Retreat volunteers — and by the generosity of our visitors and Friends of St. Columba’s. Our hill-side perch above Tomales Bay offers opportunities for several onsite venues, public and private, for reflection and/or communal gatherings. On the recent initiative of the local community an amphitheater dating back 50+ years is being cleared and revitalized. Once used by the church and the community for weddings, graduations, outdoor services and music performances, the current restoration efforts center around an immediate goal to produce alfresco afternoon Shakespeare performances (around Labor Day).
Our Retreat House accommodations are in a four-story 1930’s historic summerhouse mansion converted into an Episcopal Church with lodging accommodations for up to 32 guests. Filled with nooks and crannies — fireplaces and books — soaring ceilings, with walls and floors crafted from knot-free, old-growth redwood, the ambiance offers a sense of timeless rustic charm. No room is alike; all possess their own special charm.
There are many lovely, separate spaces for our guests to ‘spread out’ — whether in solitude or to gather together — indoor and out! As a result the Retreat House is a superior resource for conferences, meetings, workshops and seminars…or quiet meditation. Families have gathered for reunions and celebrations of life. During times of emergencies we have served as the Designated Red Cross Disaster Shelter for Inverness. Beyond our own beautiful grounds, Tomales Bay State Park and the National Seashore beckon for recreation. Our visitors enjoy wonderful beaches, kayaking, world-class birdwatching and a vast selection of great West Marin hiking options.
Worship & Meeting Spaces We offer several worship and meeting spaces inside and out. Inside worship spaces include our Sanctuary and The Lady Chapel. In 1957 we created an outdoor Chapel on the hill overlooking our forested grounds and Tomales Bay. In the center is the large Celtic Iona Cross. St. Seraphim ‘s was created in 1980 (from a former “playhouse”) to serve as a one-room space for personal time of prayer and meditation. Our Amphitheater was created for the Inverness Music Festival in 1965. It served as a place for community events, weddings, outdoor meetings and worship services for many years. It is currently being cleared and renovated by local community, parish and retreat volunteers.
Overnight Accommodation St. Columba’s Retreat lodging can accommodate Individual, Family and Group retreats with a maximum Group Accommodation sleeping up to 32 persons. A combination of rooms varying in character and size are available for reservation. They vary in capacity from single and double rooms, dorms sleeping from 4 to 6 persons, and a 12-bed bunkroom. Bathrooms, communal and private, are shared. The 6-room-dorm has an ‘en-suite’ bathroom. A large kitchen and adjacent dining space is available for shared use.

Check-in time is 4 p.m. Check-Out time is 12 noon.
- A NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT is required to secure group reservations for more than 10 individuals
- There is no supplemental charge for Weekend Use in effect at this time
Special considerations for large groups, families and extended stays should be discussed with our Rector.
